The perfect drink

I was so happy to find this drink on one of my fellow runner’s blog. I am also happy to have been given the permission to share the recipe with all of you.  As was mentioned in my friend’s blog, this recipe makes a great pre-meal drink if you are feeling hungry and food is not quite ready yet but it can be enjoyed whenever you feel like having an extra boost of pure power – just like Popeye.

For this ingenious drink you need 3 handfuls of fresh baby spinach leaves, 1 orange and 1 lime, and a blender. Squeeze the fruit and mix with the spinach. To achieve the desired consistency add water. Voilà! I fell in love with the drink straight away.

Pure nutrients

For someone like me who is worried about their iron intake and does not have a big appetite for meat, this drink is a saviour.  Spinach is rich in iron, and besides the vitamin C from the citrus fruit enhances the absorption of the iron found in spinach (different from the iron found in meat, fish and poultry). Spinach is also one of our nutrient richest vegetables. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as other health promoting nutrients. So, you no longer need to chew spinach leaves in your salad .. you can now drink them!
